I'm have been using VSCode terminal on Windows 10. After last week's update, I would do the same ctrl + ` shortcut to open the terminal via VSCode. I would type npm start, however, this time it opened an external terminal. How do I change the configurations so it would not open externally?

On Windows, when I open a folder from the terminal in VSCode with the "code ." command, it opens VSCode correctly but the terminal window becomes a slave, running all console commands from the app without returning command to me. If I close the terminal, VSCode also closes, it seems that the application thread is being run as child of the terminal process that gets killed with its parent. The same does not happen with "xp . ", my shortcut for the file explorer.
My question is how to make VSCode open as its own process letting the terminal be free.

cmd /c start "VSCode" "code.exe" .
I noticed that the command history is saved when using Visual Studio Code. Using the arrow up and down keys, I can toggle through previously issued commands in the integrated terminal.
Where is the terminal history saved on the drive? Is it possible to open a file in notepad (or notepad++) and investigate the complete history, delete it?
I'm using Windows 10, and I have concluded that deleting the folders C:\Users\john\.vscode and C:\Users\john\AppData\Roaming\Code will not delete the terminal history for a particular project.
VSCode terminal use external shell. For linux the default shell is bash, I am not so sure about window, but I guess the default shell for window is powershell.
If your terminal shell is indeed powershell, this should help you locate the log file.
On Linux & MacOS, type the following command to display the path of the history file:
echo $HISTFILE
The history file may be different between VSCode and your regular terminal.
So you should type this command within the integrated terminal.
On Ubuntu you can see your history using this command:
vi ~/.bash_history
When i open my workspace in VScode i go directly into my SSH work area, which is what i want. But i want to have a split terminal with access to both my SSH-work area and a terminal for my local computer, but i cant access the local one without making an explicitly new terminal from the dropdown window. And if i try to split the new local terminal i get the error "The terminal shell CWD "/Users/asd/work/" does not exist" as if its being looked for in my SSH work directory. Is there any way of specifying the default terminal to be on my local computer? If i do so in the terminal preferences in VScode i get the CWD-error on startup instead.

Both of you don't have C:\Windows\System32 on your path, I don't understand why that is.
But I will change this to not rely on the PATH.
Even if this was for Windows originally, opening a local shell, (Mac or Windows) should now be possible while having a remote session.
Wtih ctrl+shift+p or cmd+shift+p(Command Palette), you have:

Terminal layout is restored on remote terminal reconnection. In the video below, the terminal layout is restored when reloading VS Code and reconnecting to a Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) remote instance.
Is it possible to configure VSCode to launch with the integrated terminal open? It's literally the first thing I always do - and it'd be great if I wouldn't have to do that.

I'm trying to setup a chain of tasks that need a terminal for each one. To do so, I need to use a command that opens a new integrated terminal tab from a previous integrated terminal. Is there any way to do so in vs-code integrated terminal?
In mac I would use
open -a Terminal
Or something like ttab that immediately opens a tab in the current iterm terminal.

Ctrl+Shift+` (Tilda) is the keyboard shortcut to open another terminal on Windows.
Cmd+Shift+` (Tilda) is the keyboard shortcut to open another terminal on Mac.
