How to compile a project from github for composer but do not use composer repository?

I want to instal October CMS, installation guide is here: https://octobercms.com/docs/setup/installation
but I do not want use composer and install it from repository by composer.
I want download files from here: https://github.com/octobercms/october
and install/compile downloaded files on my local server.
October is no longer free and open source (see https://octobercms.com/blog/post/october-cms-moves-become-paid-platform), and as a part of their v2 they no longer support hosts without composer support or exec() access. The best you could do with October is purchase a license, use composer locally; and then just transfer the files to your server directly, but you won't be able to use the backend to install or update the core, plugins, or themes from the marketplace.
The good news is that the core maintainers have forked the project and are continuing the original project as Winter CMS (see https://github.com/wintercms/winter/issues/5; disclaimer, I'm one of them); and Winter CMS will continue to supports hosts without composer or exec() access.
Winter CMS is currently only available to install through composer, but it does support installing and updating plugins via the backend without composer. We're currently hard at work at getting our marketplace up and running, as well as our web installer, but in the meantime it uses October's marketplace instead.

ddev v1.3.0 has MariaDB 10.2 which can be incompatible with TYPO3 v8

I noted in the upgrade of ddev v1.3.0 that it uses MariaDB 10.2, which has compatibility problems with TYPO3 v8.
Edit 2019-01-08: As of ddev v1.5.0 you can configure the version of MariaDB you want; 10.1 is available. Use mariadb_version: "10.1" in .ddev/config.yaml. Note that if you already have the project up using 10.2 you'll need to ddev rm --remove-data to get a fresh database with 10.1.
Many TYPO3 community members were excited to get MariaDB 10.2... but oops, sorry for breaking those with projects on TYPO3 v8. We hope to resolve this with more options in an upcoming release.
In the meantime, you can:
Use ddev v1.2.0 or
Just use the db container from v1.2.0 by adding dbimage: drud/ddev-dbserver:v1.2.0 to the .ddev/config.yaml of your TYPO3 v8.7 project.
For updates, follow this issue in the ddev queue
Details on the incompatibilities of MariaDB 10.2 and TYPO3 v8.7 are at https://github.com/davdenic/typo3-ddev-project-setup

Upgrading TYPO3 to v8 LTS via the BE?

I want to update my TYPO3 8.7.8 to the v8 LTS, but i can't seem to find any way to do this via the Backend. Do i need to manually install the new version as a fresh installation?
You don't need to add TYPO3 Source manually if you have create symlinks in your typo3 installation and already running with TYPO3 Version 8.7.x.
If your TYPO3 Version running in 6.2.x Then First you need to upgrade TYPO3 Version 7.6 and after TYPO3 8.7. You can't upgrading Directly version 8.7 if your systems is running in 6.2.x.
Just you need to follow below steps.
Login TYPO3 BE and Go To Install Tool.
In Important actions you see the Check for core updates button. click on this, Here you can find latest TYPO3 version.
After download latest TYPO3 Version. Click on Compare current database with specification and update typo3 core Database.
After compare DB Go to Upgrade Wizard and perform all required steps.
Note: When performs all above steps first you need to take a backup of your database. So, in case of any problems then you can restore old DB.
Follow the upgrade guide in the docs

TYPO3 - Extension_Builder extension for TYPO3 8.7.9?

I installed the current TYPO3 v8 LTS (8.7.9) and want to download and install the extension_builder extension on it, but it seems the latest version is for TYPO3 7.6. Is there a version of extension_builder that can be somehow manually downloaded that supports TYPO3 8.7.9? I remember there were versions beyond that specific one for TYPO3 7.6 available but needed to be manually downloaded. Where can i find those?
It seems that all is missing is a release to the TER. So there are currently 2 ways to get the version for 8.7
Use composer composer require friendsoftypo3/extension-builder
Download it from https://github.com/FriendsOfTYPO3/extension_builder/tree/8.7 and upload it as directory extension_builder to typo3conf/ext. You can't use the downloaded zip file in upload of EM.
TYPO3 v8 compatible version of extension_builder is now also available in the Extension Repository.
If you are in the very beginning, you can try to install typo3 by Helmut Hummels pre configured composer installation. On this installation you have to add the version in composer file.
"name": "friendsoftypo3/extension-builder",
"version": "dev-master",
"source": {
"type": "git",
"url": "https://github.com/FriendsOfTYPO3/extension_builder.git",
"reference": "4.........."
},
extension_builder is now compat with each major version of Typo3.
You can download the extension for Typo3 8.7 here : https://extensions.typo3.org/extension/extension_builder
TER is the Typo3 Extension Repository. You can search and download extensions for Typo3 CMS.
The link I provided redirect you to the page details of the extension you are looking for. On that page, your get the version details with typo3 version compatibility. Find yours, and download the extension.
OR if you are in composer mode, do it using composer and the command provided on the page : composer req friendsoftypo3/extension-builder

How do i upgrade osCommerce v2.2 to v2.3.1?

How do i upgrade osCommerce v2.2 to v2.3.1? Is there a upgrade script available for that?
Do I have to upgrade it to v2.3.0 before upgrading to v2.3.1?
Download and unzip the latest version of osCommerce v2.3.1. Inside the folder you will find an upgrade_guide.pdf - open it. On the very first page, it tells you how to go about upgrading.
On page 2 you'll see a reddish shaded box and it says the following:
This upgrade guide only provides the minimum required changes in the form of security updates and bug fixes. These changes will not upgrade your store to a complete v2.3 version. Please continue to use v2.2 add-ons and do not install v2.3 optimized add-ons as the may not function with your installation. If you wish to upgrade to a full v2.3 version, perform only (SQL) Database Changes and use the database with a new v2.3 installation.
