In VS Code, I don't have the default themes available anymore.
But I would like to be able to select the dark+ default theme.
I have searched in the Extensions panel but nothing shows up, it does not seem to be available to be re-downloaded or re-enabled.
Does anyone know how to get the default themes available again?
Thanks to Dorin Botan's comment, I just needed to do input #builtin to the Extensions panel:
And then from the Setting icon, enable the default themes again.

Where I can find good documentation for every available settings.json configuration option so I can configure VS code however I like to?
There isn't an official maintained list of everything, but you can find some guides in the VS Code Documentation.
For theme color reference, you can see the list at Theme Color documentation.
The closest to what you want may be pressing Ctrl+, (or by using the gear menu in the bottom left), you can open a GUI that will show all configurable settings and allow you to search them. For some things, it will tell you to edit it in the settings.json instead, though. In which case, you may need to to look at the documentation for usage instructions.
Code Text Colorless
When I code in Visual Studio, it doesn't show any colours in the code text. It shows blue and green colours only for the class and comments texts. Also, VS doesn't suggest me anything when I code. Apart from this, everything things run fine and if there are any errors it shows up in the problem section.
I am doing flutter/ dart
I would really appreciate it if anyone helps me sort it out.
Thank you :)
Happened to me today, hope it helps someone: in my case it was just a broken extension JavaScript and TypeScript Nightly from Microsoft. After uninstalling, everything went back to normal.
I think the issue is likely the VS Code theme you're using. Dark (Visual Studio) only shows limited colours - try changing it to Dark+ and you should see more colours.

This issue was fixed, once I updated VS code and restarted it. The text colour for every widget and class was back after that.
I am not using VS but you might try to add Flutter and Dart extension from marketplace.
In VS Code, open the Color Theme picker with File > Preferences > Color Theme. (Code > Preferences > Color Theme on macOS).
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+K Ctrl+T to display the picker.
Use the cursor keys to preview the colors of the theme.
Select the theme you want and press Enter.
What worked for me was checking if I had any deprecated or problems with an extension. Go to extensions in vs code (or ctrl+shift+x) check if any of your installed extensions has a problem; a warning yellow sign should appear below if your extension is deprecated or has any other problem. Fix the faulty extensions.
You can try installing "Flutter Widget Snippets" for already written code snippets from VS code Extensions.
Above is today's color theme. Please see variable name SideMenu.
And another one is a picture which is taken few days ago.
You can see SideMenu color is different. It's not a problem of styled-components theme. Because every static variable's name's colors are changed.
It's not first time. few weeks ago, I had this experience and it's very annoying. Why the color theme of vs code (This is default Dark+ Theme) is changed automatically? I feel very unfamiliar with this color, and I want to stop the changing and hope to go back previous color.
How can I do that and Why this happens?
Ah! This is due to activation of Semantic Highlighting
You can disable or enable it to to get the coloring you want. Usually its enabled for default themes. If you disable it, you will get your old colors back.
You can disable/enable it here
Or you can add "editor.semanticHighlighting.enabled": false to settings.json
The is an option explorer.autoReveal in settings (either user or workspace) which controls if the explorer should automatically reveal files when opening them.
Open VS User Settings (Preferences > User Settings). This will open two side-
by-side documents.
Add a new "explorer.autoReveal": false setting to the User Settings document
on the right if it's not already there. This is so you aren't editing the
Default Setting directly, but instead adding to it.
Save the User Settings file.
Please enter your settings.json file for clear question. There might a code snippet like "workbench.preferredDarkColorTheme": "Default Dark+ Experimental" or "workbench.colorTheme": "so and so" in the settings.json. You have to remove this, because this might set your default theme to some preset theme. So, you will not be able to change your Color Theme on a fresh start.
I resently switched to Visual Studio Code as my editor. I installed my favorite theme "Material Theme Palenight High Contrast". I'm in love with it. There is just on problem, that really hinders me when coding on my laptop.
The squiggly lines of the linting error are super dark, because they have opacity.
As you can see here, one can barely see the error below item. Is there a way to change the opacity of linting errors?
EDIT: I tried setting workbench.colorCustomizations but that caused my theme to disappear.
Edit 2: I tried setting the theme specific settings like this:
"workbench.colorCustomizations": {
"[Material Theme Ocean High Contrast]": {
"editorError.foreground": "#ff0000"
}
},
but it didn't work. The color of the squiggly stayed the same.
The instructions on the theme page you linked say to use editor.colorCustomizations, not workbench.colorCustomizations. Have you tried that?
There's also a bit above the link I gave that talks about setting the accent color. They don't define what "accent color" means, so I'm not sure if that color is the thing you're trying to change, but you might try it.
I was able to find a fix. Go to the place where your extensions are installed:
/Users/user-name/.vscode/extensions/extension-name/themes/theme-name.json
In that file find the values for editorError.foreground and editorWarning.foreground. Here you can overwrite their values and it will work.
I'm just asking myself, whether this should be an issue for the VSCode repository? Since setting the settings in the user settings should overwrite this. One shouldn't have to change this .json file. Especially since this will change back again, if you re-install the theme.
Dummy Edit 🤦🏻♂️:
Damn, I accidently wrote Oceaning insteand of Palenight. The color customizations work... My bad. No need to do this hacky trick I described above.
I am using the Dark theme in Eclipse Oxygen. When I hover over a class to view the Javadoc, the links are in blue and very hard to see
I have tried editing the hyperlink color in Preferences -> General -> Appearance -> Colors and Fonts -> Basic -> Hyperlink text color but that didn't work. Under the Java section in Colors and Fonts there is an entry to edit Javadoc background and Javadoc text color, but I see nothing for Javadoc hyperlink color or something like that. I could change the background color as a workaround but that breaks the dark theme and I'd rather not.
The short answer is you can't because it's system dependent.
Among the many other ongoing dark-theme bugs that need to be fixed, the particular bug you've found has been recently reported here as bug 517393. The target fix for this bug is in Eclipse Photon (4.8) Milestone 2.
I've figured out a workaround for this issue at least for Windows.
On Windows, Eclipse's html renderer follows Internet Explorer's option for changing color of webpage. So, if you do not use Internet Explorer or just do not mind such change of all webpage, let's go!
Please note that some desciption below may not be accurate since I do not use an English version of Windows.
Open IE, click GEAR icon at top right corner - choose Internet Optioin - click Color at the bottom - uncheck Use Windows Color - change the color of Visited and Unvisited, and the rest two to suit your need if you use dark theme in Eclipse. Apply the change.
Then click Accessibility (on the right of Font) - check Omit Color - Apply the change.
It's done.
For those who are like me still stuck with an older Eclipse IDE like 4.7.3 (without the fix of the bug mentioned in the first answer) and are using Windows:
The workaround in the previous answer does not work if you have Microsoft Edge installed instead of Internet Explorer. Reason: Microsoft Edge does not let you change the link color. There are Chrome Extension that you can install but this didn't work for me either.
Another solution could be to switch Windows to "High contrast mode". Someone even managed to change the link color for Eclipse. I accidently found this "temporary" workaround:
Start Eclipse
Activate Windows "High contrast mode"
Eclipse wants to be restarted. Say yes.
Deactivate Windows "High contrast mode"
Again, Eclipse wants to be restarted. Again, say yes.
Now the Javadoc popup looks like in "Light" theme!? So links are very easy to see now.
However, that's not a really comfortable workaround: it needs some time and you have to repeat these steps after every reboot. My "favorite workaround" for now, is to select the link text in the Javadoc popup with the mouse, so that the link text is displayed with a more readable background/foreground color combination.
