Postgres11 vacuum taking days - postgresql

I have set maintenance_work_mem 50GB and trying to run 200GB non partitioned table with 10 indexes manually. I am wondering it is taking 3 days still not completed vacuum.
I know, these many indexes bad but not understanding why vacuum not finished.

PostgreSQL suddently takes all the disk space

I am facing a very strange issue on my server, my configuration is very straight-forward:
Small VPS, 500 MiB RAM, 40 GiB disk
Debian stable at install time, now probably old_stable
PostgreSQL v11.11
The data is very small, the use of a database for my purpose is probably overkill, but handy:
7 tables
7 views, including one of them which is a little bit scary
The biggest table have a few hundred records
The full dump of the database gives me a file of 93 KiB
Everything was very fast for 1.5 year. Yesterday, the database suddenly became very slow. My investigations showed that the size of the data on the disk was 34 GiB and I had no disk space available anymore.
After more investigations, I tried the command "vacuum full", which deleted the useless 34 GiB. The disk space changed from 100% usage to 10% usage and the performances came back immediately. One day later, the system is slow again, I saw the disk usage is now around 50%.
I have no clue about what is going on, any suggestion?
I'd recommend reading Optimize and Improve PostgreSQL Performance with VACUUM, ANALYZE, and REINDEX and Routine Vacuuming. Here's some relevant bits.
In normal PostgreSQL operation, tuples that are deleted or obsoleted by an update are not physically removed from their table
You must have done a lot of deletes and updates, so Postgres consumed a lot of disk space. vacuum recovers this space. vacuum full isn't normally necessary and will lock your database.
Normally there is an autovacuum daemon running which will vacuum periodically. It probably isn't running. Check with show autovacuum and show track_counts. Both need to be true for autovacuum to run.
You can see what is "bloating" your database with the check_postgres tool.

Effect of vacuum freeze in Postgresql

I am using postgresql for cloudSQL on GCP.
One table is almost in the process of inserting. (Theoretically more than 10 million per day)
Auto vacuum was performed when the data was about 10 billion.
Also, while auto vacuum was running, other processes could only be used by a single user.
Perhaps it is the effect of vacuum freeze.
What is the exact cause?
And I decided that the execution period would be shorter if auto vacuum was run in a smaller amount and frequently, so I modified the parameter as follows.
autovacuum_freeze_max_age : 2 billion -> 100 million
autovacuum_multixact_freeze_max_age : 2 billion -> 100 million
Are there any parameters that need to be modified to further increase performance?
Yes, those are the correct settings to make anti-wraparound autovacuum run more often, so that individual runs are smaller.
You can further improve matters for this table if you set vacuum_freeze_min_age to 0, so that all rows are frozen when autovacuum runs.
Note that you can set these parameters on a single table like this:
ALTER TABLE tab SET (
autovacuum_freeze_max_age = 100000000,
autovacuum_multixact_freeze_max_age = 100000000,
vacuum_freeze_min_age = 0
);
That is better, because other tables in your database may be served better with the default settings for these parameters.
Note that an easy alternative to all this is to upgrade to PostgreSQL v13 or better, where autovacuum will run more often on insert-only tables for exactly this reason.
As always with VACUUM, setting maintenance_work_mem high will improve performance.

Postgres count(*) extremely slowly

I know that count(*) in Postgres is generally slow, however I have a database where it's super slow. I'm talking about minutes even hours.
There is approximately 40M rows in a table and the table consists of 29 columns (most of the are text, 4 are double precision). There is an index on one column which should be unique and I've already run vacuum full. It took around one hour to complete but without no observable results.
Database uses dedicated server with 32GB ram. I set shared_buffers to 8GB and work_mem to 80MB but no speed improvement. I'm aware there are some techniques to get approximated count or to use external table to keep the count but I'm not interested in the count specifically, I'm more concerned about performance in general, since now it's awful. When I run the count there are no CPU peeks or something. Could someone point where to look? Can it be that data are structured so badly that 40M rows are too much for postgres to handle?

PostgreSQL large number of partition tables problem using hash partitioning

I have a very large database with more than 1.5 billion records for device data and growing.
I manage this by having a separate table for each device, about 1000 devices (tables) with an index table for daily stats. Some devices produce much more data than others, so I have tables with more than 20 million rows and others with less than 1 million.
I use indexes, but queries and data processing gets very slow on large tables.
I just upgraded to PostgreSQL 13 from 9.6 and tried to do one single table with hash partition with a least 3600 tables to import all the tables into this one and speed up the process.
But as soon as I do this, I was able to insert some rows, but when I try to query or count rows I get out of shared memory, and max locks per transaction issues.
I tried to fine tune but didn’t succeed. I dropped the tables to 1000, but in certain operations I get the error once again, just for testing I dropped down to 100 and it works, but queries are slower with the same amount data in a stand alone table.
I tried range partition in each individual table for year period and improved but will be very messy to maintain thousands of tables with yearly ranges (note I am running in a server with 24 virtual processors and 32 GB RAM).
The question is: Is it possible to have a hash partition with more than 1000 tables? If so, what I am doing wrong?

PostgreSQL: VACUUM FULL or CLUSTER?

I'm nearly out of disk space because of a query that tried to update every row in a huge table. I don't have enough space for CLUSTER (though it would barely fit if I dropped indexes first and recreated them afterwards).
How can I estimate how long VACUUM will take? How about VACUUM FULL? How do the three (with CLUSTER) compare in terms of running time and disk usage?
It's PostgreSQL 8.3.
use cluster, until 8.4 vacuum full is broke. if it takes to long you might as well dump and reload the table.
