(not sure if I asked this earlier somewhere, but I can't find it)
Earlier I found out how to create a usable entry on the VSCode settings menu (also usable in settings.json) by editing these VSCode source files:
vscode/src/vs/editor/common/config/editorOptions.ts
Adding a variable in export interface IEditorOptions.
Adding an enum in export const enum EditorOption.
Adding an item in export const EditorOptions.
vscode/src/vs/editor/common/standalone/standaloneEnums.ts
Adding an enum to export enum EditorOption.
I don't know if that's the correct way, I just copied other options.
I hadn't yet figured out how to access the new entry's value from the function I wanted to use it in (I had already implemented the functionality, just without the option).
I then got sidetracked and forgot about this.
Now when I try to build it I'm getting an error (it builds fine without the changes).
running yarn --cwd <mydir> run gulp vscode-linux-x64
gives Error: monaco.d.ts is no longer up to date. Please run gulp watch and commit the new file.
I'm not sure exactly how I'm supposed to run gulp watch here. I don't know anything about yarn or gulp (I'm just using the VSCode contributor instructions), and running yarn --cwd <mydir> run gulp watch doesn't fix the problem.
It sounds like vscode/src/vs/monaco.d.ts being read by the build process before being written/updated, because its timestamp changes. I'm not sure if that's my fault and/or if it's a red herring.
Does anyone know what I should be doing here? Has anyone here modified the settings menu?
Is there any documentation out there for modifying the settings menu? (I had a look, didn't find anything).
I am rebuilding my comment highlighter in to a new extension.
However I now run now in to an issue where I get the following warning:
(node:4904) [DEP0005] DeprecationWarning:
Buffer() is deprecated due to security and usability issues.
Please use the Buffer.alloc(), Buffer.allocUnsafe(), or Buffer.from() methods instead.
So far I can find in my extension I never use the function Buffer()
I think that it comes from the vscode module.
When the warning occurs block comment highlighting stops working.
This issue is breaking for my extension in development mode.
However my old extension has the same issue in development mode and released version.
Only in the released version doesn't report of the warning.
I am sorry for not including a minimal, reproducible example.
UPDATE:
In the latest release of my comment highlighter I have fixed block comment highlighting. At least I have fixed what was broken on my end.
The (node:4904) [DEP0005] DeprecationWarning keeps breaking my extension on rare occasions, this happens in all my environments.
Restarting vscode or rebooting the operating system can sometimes fix it. I have noticed that other extensions break as well when my extension is broken.
Operating systems I run:
Windows 10
Ubuntu 20 LTS
On both OSes I run nvm to manage node and npm versions.
I currently have 2 computers both dual booted with the named OSes
The issue occurs on both computers.
Here are the steps I used to help diagnose what is causing that Buffer deprecation warning.
Uninstall your extension. You may have to reload vscode after this.
Terminal: export NODE_OPTIONS=--throw-deprecation
Terminal: code-insiders --install-extension arturodent.find-and-transform
(or code --install-extension arturodent.find-and-transform if not on Insiders)
(replace with your extension id found in the package.json)
That should re-install the extension with a stack trace about the deprecation warning.
Obviously, if your extension directly used new Buffer() you can fix it.
If you imported/required an extension that uses new Buffer() you have a couple of options: look for an alternative, fork it or file an issue with that repository.
In my case, neither of the above was the issue. You can see that fd-slicer is the problem. And that is a dependency of yauzl. yauzl is used by vscode itself, not by me or by my extension's dependencies.
There are issues filed on fd-slicer (maintainer has no interest in fixing this, PR to fix) and on yauzl urging to switch to a forked fd-slicer2 which hasn't been merged yet (PR to fix - consider upvoting). And on vscode: buffer warning, yauzl.
My node version: v15.9.0
For me, this Buffer warning is currently an irritant only, and does not affect the functionality of my extension fortunately.
I encountered a somewhat similar incident while trying to create my first extension. So launching the Command Palette - Ctrl + Shift + P and selecting >Developer: Reload Window helped.
I hope you have been able to successfully overcome this issue as I have not seen many answers in online forums relating to this type of warning. VS Code is having trouble referencing your node module as you may have either and outdated version of node or double installation causing broken symlinks. This is usually fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling node using brew a couple of times then unlinking and relinking node once the broken symlinks are gone. The following video helps to explain just how to do this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAnf4XUUjkg
After that simply restart your IDE and try launching VS code again! Hope this helps.
I tried internet search on this issue and it is very common with many suggestions. The problem started with an update to VS2019 in which I paused because my projects in VSCode were breaking.I did a system restore and when I tried to start VSCode I got a message saying my installation was corrupt. So I reinstalled to the latest version and now get this error.
A fatal error was encountered. The library 'hostpolicy.dll' required to execute the application was not found...
I found 3 extensions that needed updating so I do so but did not fix this problem. Do not know if I need to update the .Net Core since it looks like a version mismatch. It seems these updates are wreckless since they always cause thing to go wrong.s
If you are facing this problem, it means you are using Windows.
This official microsoft live share github page explains how to fix the issue: https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/live-share/issues/102
Especially, check out this comment: https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/live-share/issues/102#issuecomment-366509735
make vscode is up to date
uninstall live share from vscode
close vscode completely
restart vscode as administrator
reinstall live share
I should add:
close completely vscode and restart it
Back in the day I was debugging node.js applications using the ChromeDevTools. Breakpoints would be synced or reset on remote, so that no matter what, the breakpoints in the Eclipse breakpoint window would always match the actual breakpoints.
Also, setting up the Source Mapping as described here would cause Eclipse to break inside my actual local files, not in a read-only V8 window.
These days, ChromeDevTools is outdated and unmaintained. I started using Nodeclipse and their V8 debugger.
But now, when debugging, Eclipse keeps breaking on breakpoints I had already unset or removed. Seemingly irregardless of my setting here:
Also, whether or not it's a break point I meant to break on, A new read-only editor opens with the V8 (Chromium) icon in stead of the javascript-icon. If the original name was e.g. index.js, the script that opens is index.js (20).chromium.
What is changed? How exactly does one set up the Nodeclipse V8 debugger for proper breakpoint syncing and source mapping?
There is nice intro info given, but still a discussion should follow, that does not fit to StackOverflow format. Please create and follow with an issue on https://github.com/Nodeclipse/nodeclipse-1/issues
These days, (since Nodecipse 0.2) Launch configuration is created automatically, so most users may even don't know about it existence. And it is needed to be recalled looking at code how actually launch configurations are created and synced. Related source are here:

I'm currently running IntelliJ IDEA 13.1. While running IntelliJ 13 intellisense/autocomplete stopped working. I tried upgrading and it still doesn't work.
I can explicitly invoke code completion using ctrl+space. I looked in Settings->Editor->Code Completion and nothing looks out of place. Is there somewhere else that turns this feature on/off?
For me it was because I did not have a folder marked as Source Root (it appears in blue).
To fix, right click your root source directory -> Mark As -> Source Root.
Check to see if you accidentally turned on Power Save (File/Power Save Mode) I myself just discovered that File/Power Save Mode does turn it off. I was having the same problem and must have accidentally set Power Save Mode to on.
I'm using Mac and when I upgraded to Big Sur my intellisense stopped working.
This is due Big Sur has a shortcut for Input Source. By disabling Mac shortcut, will make Intellisense work again.
You can see the option to disable in mac:
File -> Settings-> Editor-> General -> Code Completion-> Auto pop up code Completion
If other options mentioned is already true for you,try Setting up Sources/Test folder as Sources Root/Test Sources root as it did the trick for me. I had forgot it.
Right click on folder, choose "Mark Directory as" Test Sources or Sources Root, or whatever applicable. :)
Try disabling all plugins you have. I installed Codota and it turns out to be garbage. I uninstalled it and disabled the plugin in IntelliJ and it worked
Had the same problem and none of these helped. What I realized was that on mac, control + space is used by the OS to change language inputs and it overrides intellij. So if you are on mac having multiple input languages on your keyboard, consider changing the shortcut for it :)
I tried all the above option and it did not solve the issue. In my case:
THE ISSUE: node_modules was not loaded in the file structure of the project.
THE SOLUTION: go to explorer(finder/nautilus) find the .idea folder in the project and delete it. Then re-import the project. Once I re imported the project it loaded the node_modules folder as library root
Note: It will take a few seconds for IntelliJ to index all the libraries. You will see a loader on the bottom right next to line number info.
In my case, I restarted the Intellij and everything came back to normal.
Had the same problem until:
Third party JDK installed
Configured in module settings: right click on project name, then "Open module settings" -> SDKs -> "+". Pick the jdk root folder and Idea will take care of the rest.
Re-indexed a bunch of things. It happens automatically, just be patient
For me, it was I hadn't yet set up the JDK.
Type something out, Ctrl+Space to try to autocomplete. If it fails, do Alt+Space and if the option comes up to setup JDK, do that.
In IntelliJ 2017-2 to configure Autocompletion:
Settings -> Editor -> General -> Code Completion
In case this helps anyone; for me it was a windowing glitch of some kind. The suggestions popup showed on the wrong monitor, which I didn't notice the first time it happened.. after a while I saw what was happening. Resizing the window seemed to fix it.
If you're too lazy to restart your machine to fix the issue, you can kill the process taskkill /F /PID pid_number_of_idea64.exe (task manager -- view>select columns>PID) and then open CMD, head over to C:\Program Files\JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA xxxx.xx.xx\bin, start idea.bat. Let this CMD window open.
Please note that even after executing taskkill, idea64.exe process doesn't disappear from task manager. Try executing the same command again and you'd know that process doesn't exist anymore.
For me the code completion suddenly stopped working because I had nudged the IDEA window slightly off-screen, maybe just a pixel or two, which caused the code completion pop-up to (presumably) appear off-screen. Making sure the application window was fully visible fixed the problem.
In case none of these work for you, if you are using IdeaVim, make sure your ~/.ideavimrc does not override Ctrl+Space, you can check this in vim:
:verbose map <c-space>
In my case, it was set by ~/.vim_runtime:
Last set from ~/.vim_runtime/vimrcs/basic.vim line 208
Thanks #s1n7ax for the tip!
IMPORTANT
If you had your email logged-in on IntelliJ Idea for a while and its token expire the Intellij will suddenly stop working or crash(My Version 2020.1.1).
Do two things.
1. file > sync settings with JetBrains account (log in here)
enter code here.
2. file > Invalidate cache / restart
I'm using Maven project, it works by:
File > Project Structure > Modules > Sources
and then marked java files dir as Sources.
reference link.
Spent hours to fix this problem too. For me, the answer was to disable a plugin.
Which one to disable? Just find out using trial and error since all kinds of plugins can cause errors...
It depends which product, for Intellij I might have to right click and import the .iml file from the root, or in Rider right click the solution file and open that. I'm only making this mistake 4 or 10 more times, and then it is never happening again.
