Oracle connection error using Tomcat - eclipse

I am using Eclipse Galileo and Tomcat 6.0. I am getting an error like this:
2010-08-17 00:09:42,684,JDBCExceptionReporter,WARN,,SQL Error: 0, SQLState: null
2010-08-17 00:09:42,684,JDBCExceptionReporter,ERROR,,Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory (ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
)
2010-08-17 00:09:42,684,SettingsFactory,WARN,,Could not obtain connection metadata

at org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSource.getConnection(BasicDataSource.java:880)
at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.LocalDataSourceConnectionProvider.getConnection(LocalDataSourceConnectionProvider.java:82)
I have ojdbc14-9.2.0.8.jar placed in the Tomcat lib folder as well as the deployment folders inside Tomcat webapps folder.
Anyone knows what is causing this?

ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
This indicates that DB is in process of either startup or shutdown and Connection to this DB can't be established.
Check your database instance is started. If not then call "startup" from sqlplus prompt before you try your program again.
If you use SQLDeveloper ,You can also check do you get connected to database using it.
Few links explaining ora code:
http://ora-01033.ora-code.com/
http://www.dbmotive.com/oracle_error_codes.php?errcode=01033
http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/38120/2/

Is this happening on server startup (maybe a deve environment where tomcat and oracle are on the same server) ? Tomcat would generally start up quicker than the database so it could well be trying to connect before the database is ready.
You (or your DBA) should be able to run the following query to show when the database started up. The alert log would be the place to look to determine how long it took to startup. If it was shut down abruptly, it has to apply the redo logs to the datafiles before it can permit other sessions to connect. It then has to rollback any transactions that were uncommitted when it was shutdown, but it can handle other sessions during this phase.
select startup_time from v$instance;

I'm not sure what happened, but the issues seem to be gone now. I put all my support jars for all projects into the deployment folder. Not sure if that was related to this or I just got lucky, but I am not getting this error now. :)

Though this error says that initialization or shutdown in progress , there can be many reasons for this error. Please see my answer at a similar post - https://stackoverflow.com/a/20444726/2789764

After restarting DB2 service, the application server gets ERRORCODE=-4499, SQLSTATE=58009 in database connections

We have an application on IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.x and it connects to a remote database on z/os DB2 10.x. For annual operation, DB2 shut down and restarted. After starting the database, we first get
com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.StaleConnectionException
and then we get
The database manager is not able to accept new requests, has terminated all requests in progress, or has terminated this particular request due to unexpected error conditions detected at the target system. ERRORCODE=-4499, SQLSTATE=58009
The connection between WebSphere and DB2 tested by 'test Connection' in WAS datasource. Both systems are up and running but there is no correct connection between them! There was no change in DB2, WAS, and JDBC driver.
Update: The JDBC driver version is 4.15.134, connection properties is IBM WebSphere default setting and the connection is direct to DB2. Another problem later showed that while the connection still has the problem, executing the query directly on z/OS's DB2 gets the same the error. The query consist of a select with a join on two different tables, selecting on each table is ok, but the final query does not work and gets ERRORCODE=-4499, SQLSTATE=58009.
Update 2
The detail of environment is: IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.45, DB2 10.1, Java version 1.6 SR16 and z/OS 1.13.
This specific query gets the error in all environments, on all application server, z/os SPUFI, database viewer, such as DBeaver.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Finally, we found the solution, ran REORG and RUNSTATS on both tables and on all their partitions, and the error vanished both on the application and SPUFI. I guess something went wrong during restart and tables corrupted. Now everything is ok.
If I got you correctly, you complain on inability of the driver to reestablish the database connections after the DB2 for Z/OS restart.
If yes, then have you tried to set the corresponding connection properties described at the following link?

Postgresql and ssl start up error

I am new to freenode and postgresql. I am trying to migrate from mysql to postgresql. Currently trying to set up server for ssl. Have created my server certs and configured the .conf files for ssl according to the manual as far as I can see. Trying to restart postgre sql service fails. Windows event log gives me an event ID of 0 and says
pg_ctrl could not start server examine the log output.
I can't find any log detailing the failure to start in the postgresql folders.
I have tried to register the pgevent.dll as advised by the postgresql manual (18.11 of most recent version), but I get an error message
The module "C:postgreSQL\pg10\lib\postgresql\pgevent.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found
I believe that means it is either not a registrable dll or it's corrupt.
Can anyone please advise how I can track on Windows the error that is causing Postgre to fail to start?

com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure & database disappeared & sql cmd line auto close

After running CCleaner and trying to debug a fix an Oauth password encryption type error, I have this error:
com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException:
Communications link failure
and all the local databases seemed to have disappeared
I tried to create a new database with MYSQL command line. After entering my password, there was a error and the window closed.
I have tried many solutions to debug the errors e.g. setting
compile('org.hibernate:hibernate-core')
compile('org.hibernate:hibernate-entitymanager')
to resolve an EntityFactory error which lead to this error I think.
I also tried killing the process on port 3306. But I couldn't think of any other options. Any suggestions for next steps would be...?
Apparently mysql service stopped working at some point without me realizing. The solution was going to Start -> type 'service.msc' -> run mysql80 (stands for mysql version 8.0 I think).

OrientDB 2.2.13 console.sh: getting "Cannot create a connection to remote server address(es)"

I have an embedded database where I start an OServer and trying to connect to it from the console. I've been doing this successfully for many months and upgrading the database as new versions come out. Now, with 2.2.13, the embedded operations seem to work but I can't connect to the server with the 2.2.13 console.sh. I get the message:
Error: com.orientechnologies.orient.core.exception.OStorageException: Cannot create a connection to remote server address(es): [127.0.0.1:2424]
DB name="master"
The java code running the embedded database gets the following exception:

Seems to be looking for the 'cluster' plugin.
Any idea why this doesn't work anymore? It did work in 2.2.12.
Thanks
Curtis
Seems I had automatic backup turned on but the config file was missing. So, the server looked like it started up but actually didn't.
I created the config file and set enabled to false. Still didn't start up because it sees the false and stops the configuration and throws an exception because the 'delay' parameter isn't set.
I think orientdb should start up without backups enabled if the config file is missing or the enabled parameter is set to false.
At least the console is working now.
