UITableView shows last item on the startup. How do I view the first item on the startup?
You can call following method to position your table view to any cell that you want:
- (void)scrollToRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath atScrollPosition:(UITableViewScrollPosition)scrollPosition animated:(BOOL)animated;
For example,
[tableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0] atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:YES];

you have to use some delegate methods for uitabelview

This only highlights the table cell. You would need to call the code which would appear in your tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath method or alternatively you could call it yourself like:
NSIndexPath * ip =[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0];
[self tableView: npTable didSelectRowAtIndexPath: ip];

In your UITableView delegate method:

Here, myView is the view which you have IBOutlet.

Yes there is a way on row selection method you have to fire up a method which creates auiview smaller in size as desired and in that view table view as subview.
Plz specify what type or kind of pop-up you want to appear.

You should use table view's updating methods:

The code below seems to have no effect. I want it to be highlighed in the same way it highlights when you tap on a row

This line will handle repainting the cell, label and accessory for you:

As others have noted, you can programmatically select a cell using this method:

However, you should be careful not to call this method too soon.
The first time that the view controller containing said tableView is initialized, the earliest that you should call this method is within viewDidAppear:.
So, you should do something like this:

If you are using interface builder to build your interface, one thing to check is that you specified the view of the table view controller. If you don't actually specify the view, this selection message may go nowhere.
(you specify the view by selecting the table view controller in the interface builder inspector window and dragging the outlet for "view" to the table view you want to do the selection in).

You have two choices. Either use the selection of the table view:
[tableView selectRowAtIndexPath: indexPath animated: YES scrollPosition: UITableViewScrollPositionNone];
Or change the background color of the table cell in the table view delegate:

I have a UISplitViewController with a Table View for navigation. It's similar to the Mail app. When you click on a table view in portrait mode, the popup hides itself. When you click on the nav bar to get the popup back, the selected item no longer appears selected. How can make this item appear selected without re-selecting the item? (just like in the mail app)
In your viewDidLoad method, do you call
self.clearsSelectionOnViewWillAppear = NO; ?

I've got a solution that works, but it's frustratingly hacky. I have to call selectRowAtIndexPath twice. It seems that cellForRowAtIndexPath is invalidating the selection made in viewWillAppear. It still needs to be called in viewDidAppear, however, so the view scrolls to the proper position before cellForRowAtIndexPath is called.

For your table view controller, is -viewWillAppear: called before the pop-up is displayed? If so, you could write it as so:

Obviously, replace <indexPath> with the proper index path and set the scroll position how you want it. You may also want to pass NO instead of animated to make it appear like it was selectd before the view appeared.
In my tableview I have number of rows that have disclosure detail button accessory type, and when pressing the row or the accessory, a new view is pushed to a navigation controller. I call the deselectRowAtIndexPath at the end of the didSelectRowAtIndexPath function.
If I press the accessory button, I go to a new view, but it remains highlighted when I come back to this view (pop). The row is deselected as expected but not this. Any thoughts on how to 'unhighlight' it?

You must reload the data FIRST and THEN select the row so that the highlight appears beneath your action sheet options.
Simply remove from your

method the statement
[tableView selectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES scrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop];
Since your table already allows selection, and you are correctly deselecting it in
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath;
you are done, because the row will be highlighted when selected pressing the disclosure button, and deselected when tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: is executed.
