I've spent the whole day and tonight trying to work out why my receive functions aren't working. When I started the project initially it was fine (this was a couple days ago). I've since worked on it more and now it will not work.
I've even now created a new project on CubeMX with only jtag and uart5 set up and still no receive functions work. I can confirm the board works fine with much older projects I have worked on.
I believe something is happening during the build process but I can't figure it out.
I'm using an STM32F207 chip.
Below is the very basic program I've put together to test the UART functionality. I can transmit perfectly fine, its just that no receive functions work.
I've even added the simple "HAL_UART_Receive()" in my main loop with a long timeout and it completely skips the whole function!
I've forced the activation of the UART interrupts too and that hasn't done anything.
I restored this project earlier today with a previous commit and the build ran fine for a bit. Then it stopped working again after a compile. I tried to restore it again and the second time it did nothing to solve the issue.
When sending data to the MCU the RXNE flag is triggered and the data register gets changed, not to anything remotely that is being sent however.
I'm running out of ideas!

So! After much head scratching I have found a solution that works!
It may not be the "best" way but it is a way that works and that I'm sure should be fine for the project I am doing.
In my ISR file (stm32f2xx_it.c") I now have:
/**
* #brief This function handles UART5 global interrupt.
*/
void UART5_IRQHandler(void)
{
HAL_UART_IRQHandler(&huart5);
if(HAL_UART_Receive_IT(&huart5, (uint8_t*) pc_buff, PC_BUFF_LENGTH)==HAL_BUSY){
// Add some sort of flag in this process for errors
}
}
/**
* #brief This function handles the callback for the UART channels.
*/
void HAL_UART_RxCpltCallback(UART_HandleTypeDef *huart){
// Callback triggered by UART5
if (huart->Instance == UART5){
pc_uart_receive_flag=1;
}
}
This is assuming that data is coming in by checking for "HAL_BUSY" in the if statement. I feel like as I great more confident with embedded programming I can better implement UART ISR's. Until then I will work with what I know.

I'm a beginner at stm32. I'm currently using STM32F103C8 and want to store WiFi Config in EEPROM. Thus I am using AT24C04 EEPROM. But I can't write or read any value in that EEPROM. I couldn't find any problem. I checked the connections code etc. How can I fix my problem?

After uploading this code to my STM the red LED starts to light. The returning value of f_mount is not equal to FR_OK. I checked all connections, they are correct. Please help me.
i am using the actual HAL library to read from and write to an AD7998 analog to digital converter with a stm32f407 discovery board.
If I want to read several register values from the conversion result register, the manual says that the SCL and SDA signal should be maintained and I must not send a stop bit.
AD7998 signal pattern to read several register values of one register.
I have tried to use Mem_Read. That seems to work for one 2 bytes register. But now i am not sure how to access the other parts of the conversion result registers to read more than the first channel.
If necessary, you can find the manual here -> AD7998 manual, and my code below.
I tried to increase the number of bytes to read, but then the value of the first channel is written to the other bytes.
Has anybody of you tried this before?

Found an alternative way to read the data, by configuring my register in each iteration. Works fine now.
I'm a beginner with SMT32 products. I try to reproduce this tutoriel which proposes how to interface with the HTS221sensor to get temperature values and display them on a terminal :
tutorial
I strictly followed the tutoriel, the building of the project is OK, but when I run the code in debug mode on the STM32L475VGT6 board and I open console -> command shell console -> nothing is displayed in this console (no temperature displayed).
Moreover when I set a variable in "Expressions", the value displayed is "Error : Target not available"...
Can you help me to solve these problems ?

Thanks you,
Regards,
Lionel
There can be heaps of reasons for this.
First, you check whether you are actually connecting to the target and debugging the target.
I will give you some general debugging tips.
Make sure you can connect to the target and step through the code
Make sure your wiring/electronic is correct.
Attach the things to the appropriate pins and everything is powered up as specified in
datasheets.
Breakpoint, in your while loop, for example
int tmpInt1 = temp_value;
in that line and make sure the values you are getting is sensible.
Otherwise, go back to step 2 and debug your electronics
and check your code again.
If you want to screen your variables use USART protocol and TeraTerm program for printing values on screen. It's called as printf style debugging. Check bit rate of USART in CubeMX and Teraterm settings, they must be same.
First thanks you for your answers.
I finally found the solution to my problem. It seems that there is a bug in the STM32Cube MX code generation tool.
In deed, although I rigorously set the pins and activate the USART1 in the "Pinout & Configuration" panel, the following piece of code is not generated in the MX_GPIO_Init function :
GPIO_InitTypeDef GPIO_InitStruct = {0};
/*Configure GPIO pins : PB6 PB7 */
GPIO_InitStruct.Pin = GPIO_PIN_6|GPIO_PIN_7;
GPIO_InitStruct.Mode = GPIO_MODE_AF_PP;
GPIO_InitStruct.Pull = GPIO_NOPULL;
GPIO_InitStruct.Speed = GPIO_SPEED_FREQ_VERY_HIGH;
GPIO_InitStruct.Alternate = GPIO_AF7_USART1;
HAL_GPIO_Init(GPIOB, &GPIO_InitStruct);
So I have to copy/paste manually this piece of code in my code (main.c). Thus the global working code is the following :
/* USER CODE BEGIN Header */
/**

I have tried everything and am at real loss here.
The Problem Statement:
The code does not enter the while loop.
1.Working on STM32F303C8.
2.I have three boards:
Nucleo F303RE
Nucleo F303K8
Custom board.
All have the same IC and are giving the same problem. So the problem must be software related.
I have posted the entire code and the cubeMX file on BitBucket. Please find the link here:Link for CubeMx Software

The code simply refuses to enter the while loop.
If the IWDG init function is removed the code remains stuck at the last init function call in the sequence. If IWDG is commented, it jumps back to start of the code and executes till beginning of the while loop.
Could it be the startup file?
Thanks in advance for the support.

I was able to solve the problem.
Pretty silly but may be helpful to people starting out using HAL.
As responded by old_timer, the issue was indeed related to Time base.
The root cause:
The Timer 6 was being initialized but it's timer base needs to be initialized separately.
The solution:
After calling the function MX_TIM6_Init, integrated the function HAL_TIM_Base_Start_IT(&htim6).
This solved the problem. Also note that since I am using TImer 6 in interrupt mode, I need HAL_TIM_Base_Start_IT function. Otherwise you should call the HAL_TIM_Base_Start function.
